Choose from one of our two Courthouse venues:

Kane County Judicial Center: 37W777 IL-38, St. Charles, IL

Ceremony schedule: 3:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and first Friday of the month

Kane County Courthouse (3rd Street Courthouse): 100 S. 3rd St., Geneva, IL

Use the Schedule Your Wedding Ceremony link to book your wedding date. Dates can fill up fast, especially around holiday weekends

Step 3: The Day of Your Ceremony

On your wedding day, couples need to bring with them:

  • A photo ID
  • The folder you received from the Kane County Clerk's Office containing your marriage license number
  • $10 for the ceremony fee, cash only

If your ceremony is scheduled at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles:

  • Enter the courthouse and proceed through security.
  • Visit the Circuit Clerk's Office on the Lower Level to pay a $10 fee, cash only.
  • Go to the Family Division Department on the First Floor in Room 149. Staff will print your marriage license and tell you in which courtroom your ceremony will take place.
  • You and your guests can head to the courtroom where your ceremony is scheduled.

If your ceremony is at the Kane County Courthouse in Geneva:

  • Enter the courthouse and proceed through security.
  • Check in with the Bailiff (person in a red jacket) in the lobby.
  • Visit the Circuit Clerk's Office on the First Floor (Room 160) to pay a $10 fee, cash only.
  • Return to the lobby where the Bailiff will print your marriage license and tell you which courtroom your ceremony will take place.
  • You and your guests can head to the courtroom where your ceremony is scheduled.

Step 4: Attend Your Wedding Ceremony

  • A Judge will perform your ceremony.
  • It's a public courtroom setting; no witnesses are required, and you may have guests—there's no limit!
  • Arrive on time.

Step 5: After Your Wedding

  • Order a certified copy of your marriage certificate. Processing may take up to 2 weeks. Check with the Kane County Clerk's Office for your certificate.
  • Use the certified copy of your marriage certificate as your official document for updating your name with the DMV, Social Security, and bank accounts if you choose to do so.

Additional Tips

  • No decorations are permitted inside the courtroom.
  • Interpreters are your responsibility. They must be brought by you.
  • Photos are allowed to be taken outside. Before taking photos inside of the courtroom, you must ask the judge for permission.
